Treasures of Wonderment - Thu, 06/17/2010 - 4:11am

AUSTRALIA, 16th May 2010 (SBS Dateline) - There are precious few Iranians who dare to publicly criticise the dreaded Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's regime in Tehran especially when these days their comments are bound to be reported around the world. However one Iranian, the living legend of Iranian traditional music Mohammadreza Reza Shajarian has never hesitated to speak his mind – he is far too popular to incur the wroth of the mullas. "Lay down your guns!  I am tired of this gruesome needless shedding of blood.  Whether the gun is in your hand or another’s – it is the language of fire and mayhem." (Read the transcript of the interview with Mohammadreza Shajarian, below - Watch video of his tour in Australia)

Suzanne Klotz

Treasures of Wonderment - Thu, 06/10/2010 - 5:25pm

Much of my work juxtaposes realities built on the foundation of spiritual principles and goals, with social values based on the myth of  ownership and illusions of alienation.

The materials are manipulated so as to appear to have opposite innate qualities. For example: hard surfaces appear soft and soft surfaces appear hard. Similarly, social relations involving authority and power are explored for their misuses and abuses of human rights. The surface reality presented by those in power (the media, the government, institutions), is inverted, via the same logic of the found materials and objects from the popular cultures that produced them. This process reveals the chimeras that may well be in our unexamined social consciousness

We Share Your Dream

Treasures of Wonderment - Fri, 06/04/2010 - 5:48am

After Iran’s disputed presidential election in June 2009, millions of people took to the streets, bravely defying a repressive regime to demand free and fair elections. Repeated uprisings have reminded the world that, for many Iranians, the struggle for democracy lives on. Among the many sympathetic to Iran’s Green Movement were two American songwriters, Ron Ovadia & Matthew Levine, who had a profound desire to express their solidarity through song and have their “voices” sound the call for human rights in Iran. The song commemorates the anniversary of the 2009 election. Below is a YouTube video and the lyrics of our song.

International Peace Initiatives (IPI) is a network of people interested in working to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS, poverty and violence, as these affect the lives of women, especially women living with AIDS, and children, especially children who’ve lost their parents because of HIV and AIDS.
